Catch fish and grow as a family
Many parents look for activities where the whole family can be together. Finding an activity that will make dad and all the children happy is difficult. Fishing is something that men do to have a break and put their feet up. Taking the children fishing creates the perfect opportunity to relax with the family, bond with them and appreciate nature, sun and fresh air. Even if dad does not catch a thing, this experience might prove to be wonderful, soothing and relaxing for the whole family.
Undertaking a trip to the lake for a fishing experience with the family need not cost you anything. A small pole doesn’t cost much and can serve as a fishing rod for an inexperienced child. You will also be able to purchase a kit with the necessary items needed for a day on the water. Then again you can ask the children to help you find the gear and tackle among the goodies in your garage. The fun can begin at home in your back yard. You can teach them to get the fishing rod ready and cast it in the back yard before you leave home.
Apart from the fishing pole and line, your child will need a bobber, a hook and a small weight to catch fish. The first thing they should realise is what a real bite is and when it is only the wind or waves that are moving the bobber. This will prevent them from reeling in at the slightest little movement. This can be accomplished by showing them what it will look like when the fish takes the bait. If they see the bobber disappear they know it is a bite.
Don’t be surprised if you fish the first time and the children find it awful to put a live worm on the hook. At first you can do it for them and then teach them how to do it when they are used to the idea. If it is impossible to get them to do this, consider buying rubber worms. This might not be as effective as the real McCoy, but will still offer the opportunity of fishing. If you do not want to be left with a hook in your head or ear, you will want to teach them to make sure there is no one close when they cast their lines.
Although you are doing this activity as a family to have fun, it is also important that everyone obeys the safety rules. If you are going out on a boat, you should not take children that are not old enough to understand how dangerous it can be to fish on the water. Any person will only be allowed to get on the boat if wearing a life jacket. Before you go out with the boat, you must go over the rules first. If they don’t obey the rules, you must go ashore immediately. If your children see that you are serious about safety, they will obey and make the fishing trip fun for everyone.
